This winter has been a tough one – it seems everyone is suffering from a bad case of cabin fever and when-will-it-be-spring-itis. I’m afraid our poor little Maya believes that when we moved last summer, we took her from the land of grass and sunshine and playgrounds to live on a Russian tundra.
Those of us who are older, although it’s hard to remember right now, know that Spring Will Come Again! I plan to seize Groundhog Day as a way to bring that idea home.
Here we go…
1. The official site of Punxsutawny Phil
2. Make a pop-up groundhog puppet
3. Or a mask for your little Groundhog!
4. DLTK has a cute groundhog toilet paper roll craft (if you’re really freaky about germs, especially in a childcare setting – you can always cut a paper towel roll down to size)
5. Awwww…..a sweet little pompom groundhog asleep in egg carton cups!
6. Explore shadows with my preschool hero – Jean Warren
7. More advanced lesson plans about Shadows
8. Groundhog day printables – mini books and writing paper
9. Groundhog day printables – wordsearch
10. Online jigsaw puzzles for Groundhog day
11. Shadow or no Shadow? Printable coloring pages
12. Phil’s Math Message – a coded worksheet
13. Write a short poem for Groundhog day and read poems by other children
