I haven’t had a child around in my house for nearly 30 years. But these are certainly good ideas.
My 13 is posted…drop by and have a laugh or two! Won’t you?
I did have a birthday party for Rumsfeld once. He had a very good time and received lots of presents. (He’s a toy poodle)

The Pink Flamingo
Great idea for TT thanks for sharing, mine’s up too hope you can drop by…
My kids are too big for that,
so sad.
But great ideas.
Happy T13!
For the longest time, I just did the “Chuck E. Cheese” thing, because I was too lazy to do it alone.
Thanks for the idea!
A realistic birthday party…Imagine the fun!
Hey, I liked these so well I bookmarked the page. We have a little birthday party twice a year now, and will have another or two if my two single children will ever get with it and marry and have more grandchildren for me…not that I’m pushing or anything.
Gosh what great ideas! So often the child’s birthday party is about the parent – and that’s yucky. These are great suggestions for keeping things very simple and child-centric
Happy TT
I like this post because it is about fun for kids. I actually thought about hiring a clown for my grandkids birthdays.
My 34th TT is up: 13 comments you can make to your physician while he’s performing a colonoscopy on you. Here’s the link.
A most excellently informative list! Happy 13-day!
My daughter will be 2 in October and I’ve started thinking about this already. I don’t want to do anything with too many people because it will just overwhelm her.
Great post!
What a fun list! One idea that I didn’t see on the very exhaustive theme list was what we did to celebrate my stepdaughter’s 13th birthday. We had asked her what theme she wanted for her party, and she taciturnly responded, “Umm, I’m thirteen?” (Translation: She thought she was too old and too cool for party theme.) Nonetheless, I ran with it. We played with the idea that 13 is considered unlucky, and served a black cat-shaped birthday cake, used a black tablecloth, and decorated the table with spilled salt and broken mirrors (actually tin foil-covered cardboard “shards”). To enter the party, you had to walk under a ladder. She loved it!
Kathryn, that is a Very Clever Idea! And I think it’s one of the few ideas that you could have come up with that would be met with delight rather than the disdain that thirteen year olds work so hard to maintain. Kudos to you and that is one lucky kid, having you in her life!
