The Simple Woman’s Daybook

Monday, August 10

Outside my window… it is afternoon – hot and steamy. We finished our errands early this morning, this afternoon will be spent in the air conditioned indoors.

I am thinking… that it is a good boost for my confidence if, on days when I wake “full of energy”, I get out, get busy, get the things done that I’ve been wanting to do.
But.
It makes me a little sad to realize that it’s not simply a matter of boosting confidence.
Maya and I finished errands at the bank and the pharmacy this morning, then enjoyed browsing and shopping at the produce market, came home and made deli sandwiches for lunch, put together a salad to chill for dinner. I enjoyed every minute of it. (okay, not the bank part. That’s a boring chore :) )
Now I am very tired. Being mad about being tired makes me more tired.
Whining about being tired makes me more tired. Being sick and tired of being tired makes me more tired.
I am thinking that stubborn determination and a good dose of spunk in the attitude will take you a long way in the world -
but maybe not everywhere that you want to go.
I am thinking that growing into an autoimmune disordered old lady doesn’t really fit in well with what I had planned.
I am thinking that I’d better work on a different plan. :)

I am thankful for… everything. (that’s my mantra – “thankful for everything”). This week I do have a specific thankfulness.
I am thankful for my friend Kimela.

From the learning rooms… we’ll be wrapping up the summer reading program at the library at the end of the week with certificates of accomplishment and an ice cream social.

From the kitchen… grilled chicken, potato salad and a tossed green salad

I am wearing… the usual summer wardrobe of drawstring cotton pants, a blue gingham shirt.

I am creating… Christmas knitting from the One Skein Wonders book.

I am going… to a hip-hop dance workshop (?!) with Maya at the library tomorrow afternoon ( interesting? ). The second 4 H fair is this weekend. We also have a picnic planned.

I am reading… A Year by the Sea by Joan Anderson

I am hoping… for a week of energy filled days.

I am hearing… the quiet of a hot summer afternoon.

Around the house… the laundry is done (thanks, Grampy!), the kitchen floor is clean, dinner is well underway – the rest can wait for another day.

One of my favorite things… picnics by the river. We’ll be having another one of those this weekend.

A few plans for the rest of the week: enjoying one of the few remaining weeks before school starts. Maybe a little school shopping too.

Here is picture thought I am sharing… the yarn stash I bought this weekend – it’s Knitting for Christmas time!

  1. Thank you so much for visiting me today and commenting on my Daybook. I have LOVED reading yours! I managed to be succinct today, but usually I write more, as you have done. I laughed at your remarks about “being tired.” Oh, I can so relate to that! Your day sounds so summery and full, from the errands to the outfit you’re wearing to your dinner plans. Great post! :-)

and thank you for visiting me today as well! I hope you post a pic or two (or six) of your picnic by the river this weekend! I LOVE picnics! Sounds like a great spot to get some reading done at too! Hope you find all the energy you need this week! : )
