Outside my window… Cloudy, windy, chilly, threatening rain…again. I talked with my sister this morning and we agree – this is becoming a most depressing Spring. We Need Sunshine! (except we had sunshine late last week and my face and neck immediately broke out in hives from photosensitivity. I guess it will just be “that sort” of season.
)
I am thinking… how fortunate we are to have a wealth of research information at our fingertips when we need it. After wading through quite a bit of useless (some of it worse than useless and potentially damaging) mis-information on autoimmune and connective tissue disorders, I’ve finally found what I’m looking for – reliable, sound information and guidance. Thank You!
I am thankful for… my dear friend Kimela. She doesn’t know it yet (because I haven’t responded to her email) but she gave me a little nudge this morning that I needed badly. Over the weekend, I developed painless blisters on the tops of the last two knuckles on my fingers and swollen purple nodules on the undersides. Okay… comes with the connective tissue territory.
But my big toes won’t bend.
I gave Kimela this rundown in a note I sent her and hey! Her big toes won’t bend either. Nor will her husband’s. Maybe old people’s big toes don’t bend?
I grinned to myself when I read her email this morning.
Some body-signals need paying attention to. (like blisters and purple spots) But I hate to break it to me, kid – I’m also getting older. If I start going over every inch of my self with a fine tooth comb -
well, the results won’t be pretty
, and I’m not the only one in this world growing happily older and wiser. Lots of people are walking along with me – doing just fine with toes that won’t bend.
Love you, Kimela!
From the kitchen… Shepherd’s Pie. Simple and one of Russ’ favorites. Maya, of course, will begin to pitch and writhe in genuine horror of “food touching food” in such a dish. She will be having grilled cheese and sliced apples.
Because I’m her grandmother, not her mother. I can indulge her if I choose.
I am wearing… green khakis, a grey turtleneck and a blue checked shirt.
I am creating… still working on Easter wardrobes for the Terri Lee dolls.
I am going… to resume the Thrifty Creativity blog. I miss doing it – I guess it was more fun than I thought
I am reading… Jennifer Louden’s The Comfort Queen and asking myself each morning “what one thing can I do today that will bring me happiness?” Yesterday’s answer was “hang some of the pictures that are still in boxes from our move”. My picture of my great grandmother is now hanging in my kitchen once again. (you can see it on the bottom of this post – it’s the picture that I’m sharing this week.)
I am hoping… Nothing.
For this moment, I am quite content with everything just as it is.
I am hearing… Quiet. Maya is resting, Russ is working at his computer. It is quiet except for the timer ticking away the minutes until the laundry is ready to come out of the dryer.
Around the house… laundry, laundry and more laundry. Again. I do wish I’d listen to FlyLady and keep to a laundry routine…
One of my favorite things… Quiet breaks in the day, just like this one.
A few plans for the rest of the week: preparing for Easter. Eggs to color, a bunny cake to bake…
Here is picture thought I am sharing…
my Great Grandmother
(Maya’s great, great, great grandmother – imagine!)
