Craft It Wednesday – Kimela’s Afghan

craftitwednesday

My friend Kimela came up with this fun – and pretty! – way to use up all of those little balls of leftover yarn that accumulate after projects are finished.

Kimela rolled the leftovers into big balls, tying the ends of one color to the next to keep the balls of yarn growing. She used a simple design for her afghan, single crocheting a starting chain to the width she wanted, then continuing in rows of single crochet letting the colors flow like magic.

Very pretty, Kimela – thanks for the idea!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for Tuesday, October 20

simple-woman-daybook-large

Outside my window… warm and sunny after a few days of cold and damp

On my mind… tired today, feeling like I’m “running behind” – Daybooks should be done on Monday, my other blogs are lagging too – reminding myself that it’s okay to go at my own pace, do what I can and leave the rest… all will be well

I am thankful for… moving closer and closer to the day when we will be in our new home

I am wearing… muted plaid flannel shirt, long sleeved tee shirt underneath, jeans, two pairs of socks (maybe it’s not all that warm? :) )

I am remembering… how much I enjoy the Fall season

I am creating… knitting for Christmas – this week for my sister. She is a very thoughtful and polite gift recipient. Always. This is fortunate because I’m not too sure how this gift is turning out. It might be a bit odd….

I am reading… The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx

I am hoping… to be moved by Thanksgiving? Settled in and holding my new puppy by Christmas?

From the learning rooms… Our girl continues to thrive in kindergarten. Every week a new skill, another friend to tell us about.

Noticing that… faith is a much healthier state of mind than worry.

Pondering these words… “I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You – I’m sorry, Lord, for the thing I’ve made it. It’s all about You.”

From the kitchen… pork cutlets, mashed potatoes, waxed beans with a side order of noodles for Miss Maya. I still haven’t made the time or found the energy to shop for groceries. Perhaps tomorrow a leaf stew would be nice… the colors are so seasonal and I don’t think maple leaves are poisonous?  :)

Around the house… the great fall clothing cull. I can’t imagine why I save some of these things from year to year. I’m not moving them -
out they go!

One of my favorite things - pumpkins everywhere!

A few plans for the rest of the week: sure, I’ll write grocery shopping again – why not? I do plan on it, but I probably won’t do it. There’s a pet expo on Saturday that’s a Must Be There! on my list, we’ve been invited to a Halloween gathering at Grampy’s daughter’s house on Sunday.

From my picture journal…
our Pumpkin Artist at work -
first she designed a pattern on the Lite Brite, then glittered it on her pumpkin.
Clever – and pretty!

The Friday 56 – The Shipping News

friday56

Here’s How It Works :
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post that sentence (plus one or two others if you like) along with these instructions on your blog or (if you do not have your own blog) in the comments section of Tonya’s blog.
*Post a link along with your post back to Tonya’s.
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

Here’s my Friday 56 – after a week of not finding anything I felt like reading – a successful trip to the library yielded The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx

From page 56 -

A woman in a rain slicker, holding the hand of a child, was walking on the verge of the road. As Quoyle’s station wagon came abreast she stared at the wet car. The stranger. He lifted his hand a few inches but she had already dropped her gaze. The child’s flat face. Red boots. And he was past.
