The Simple Woman’s Daybook for Monday, August 31

Outside my window… a beautiful sunny day – a perfect September day making its appearance on the last day of August – a taste of the season to come.

I am thinking… that it will be another busy week. I am thinking that I should probably get used to the thought that every week will be a busy week.

I am thankful for… everything - “giving thanks always for all things unto God”

From the learning rooms… our little one is delighted with kindergarten. I knew she would be. Now we need to schedule our mornings and late afternoons to include the projects that we do together. We have a diorama to finish and have ready to exhibit at the county fair in a couple of weeks.

From the kitchen… I’ll be spending time this evening planning our menu for the next couple of weeks. I thought it would be fun to use the school lunch menu for the month as a starting point. Or not. They do seem to feature a lot of cheese pizza…

I am wearing… jeans, a cream tee shirt, madras overshirt, bare feet. It’s cool enough for jeans again!

I am creating… a pair of mommy size slippers to match the tiny socks I finished knitting over the weekend.

I am going… nowhere special this week. (That’s just a lie. I have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday to get last month’s test results and find out what the next plan of action will be. I’m pretending that’s not happening – la, la, la. :) )

I am reading… Woman of Grace by Michaelann Martin

I am hoping… still hoping to get a date pinned down for our move. I talked with the senior housing office this morning. First the woman said we could plan on October 1 – but then – oh, wait a minute – don’t we want a unit that allows dogs?
Yes…we do.
Oh, dear. That might take a little longer…
She’ll have the leasing office call me back this afternoon.
Sigh…
:(
Faith is not hard for me to sustain, but patience is. Very. I’m not enjoying this lesson.

I am hearing… my birthday gift Praise and Worship CDs playing beside me, Russ behind me working on a new dollhouse at the kitchen table.

Around the house… the sorting and clutter clearing is moving along nicely. Maya is claiming many of the “treasures” that I’m releasing. Looks like my daughter will have a decluttering project in her future too.

One of my favorite things… quiet afternoons knowing that Maya is happily at school.

A few plans for the rest of the week: grocery shopping, website work, a trip to the library, maybe I’ll clear the craft closet this weekend and then again, maybe I won’t.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

The kids are back in school and what comes after school?
After school snacks, of course.
If you started school in 1960 (like Grandmother Wren did!) you might have made a snack like this…

So We Don’t Forget

Lynette Kraft at Dancing Barefoot on Weathered Ground has changed the format and name of her Wednesday’s Walk Down Memory Lane to this new one - So We Don’t Forget - an opportunity to document those precious moments…sweet memories so that … You Don’t Forget.
Very Nice ( everything from Lynette’s blog is very nice!)

This Week’s Topic – What is a favorite “alone time” activity?

This is what I have missed the most in the thirteen months since we moved from our house to this apartment – my favorite alone time activity – walking with my dog on the trails through the woods.

This is what I will have again in a few short (but they will seem long to me) weeks. Now that we’ve been told that we are at the top of the waiting list for Senior Housing (do I dare let myself believe that is true?) I will again have a dog as my walking companion. I will have long times alone near the water with a dog by my side.

I have been blessed and I am grateful.
I won’t forget.

Here are some pictures from the trail that runs behind the Senior Housing complex.

It all leads so nicely to Word Filled Wednesday and the verses that have been in my heart this week.

Be glad in the Lord at all times: again I say, Be glad.
Let your gentle behaviour be clear to all men. The Lord is near.
Have no cares; but in everything with prayer and praise put your requests before God.
And the peace of God, which is deeper than all knowledge, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
For the rest, my brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things have honour, whatever things are upright, whatever things are holy, whatever things are beautiful, whatever things are of value, if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, give thought to these things.
Philippians 4, verses 4-8
