I know I'm not the only Grammy with a little girl home from school because of the snow storm.
Playing outside in the snow is great fun – after a while you get cold and have to come inside, want to or not.
Playing with warm freshly made play dough is a perfect follow up to playing outside.
Here's the recipe for the dough we made
Cooked Flour Dough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
2 tablespoons oil
Combine all the ingredients in a large pot, cook and stir over low heat until the mixture looks like thick mashed potatoes. Remove the pot from the heat and cool the dough until it is cool enough to handle. Place dough on a floured surface and knead for 5 to 7 minutes. Just like good bread, the longer you knead, the smoother it will be. Dough will keep for a week or so in the refrigerator so you can play again. Sculptures also dry nicely and can be painted if you've made a masterpiece you'd like to keep.
Still too cold to go back outside? Are your snow clothes still wet? Then put on your mittens and bring the snow in!
It's not as much fun as going outside, even if Grammy tries to pretend it will be…
but Skippy John Jones seems to be enjoying himself!
